The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra (Baby Ganesh Agency Investigation #1) by Vaseem Khan was a top 10 bestseller in The Times Saturday review.

The movie rights have been optioned by Cinestaan Film Company.

On the day he retires, Inspector Ashwin Chopra inherits two unexpected mysteries. The first is the case of a drowned boy, whose suspicious death no one seems to want solved. And the second is a baby elephant. As his search for clues takes him across the teeming city of Mumbai, from its grand high rises to its sprawling slums and deep into its murky underworld, Chopra begins to suspect that there may be a great deal more to both his last case and his new ward than he thought. And he soon learns that when the going gets tough, a determined elephant may be exactly what an honest man needs...

An American arrives in Mumbai on a mission - to retrace the steps of his girlfriend who mysteriously went missing following a terrorist attack. He pieces back her life in Mumbai through her social media pictures, and tries to manipulate her friends, colleagues, even the government officials who granted her visa into revealing what happened.

However the charm that worked so successfully at home fails in this new city, and his anger rises as he finds closed doors and dead ends. He despises Mumbai with its dirty streets, its homeless community and ultimately its secrets. However when he meets an Indian woman who proffers help, he is shown a side to Mumbai he never imagined existed in his arrogant western assumptions – a cosmopolitan world full of life, art and music. As he falls into the rabbit hole, we soon realise that the journey he set out on, is very different from the one he needs to tread.
